Left-Back crisis spurs United’s interest in Miguel Gutierrez
Manchester United have expressed interest in signing Girona defender Miguel Gutierrez this summer transfer window, per Relevo.
The 22-year-old left-back played an impressive season for the La Liga side in the recently concluded campaign, and that has piqued the interest of multiple Premier League clubs in his signature. The Red Devils suffered greatly in the position last season, and Erik ten Hag would want to ensure he doesn’t get burned twice as he looks for a new face to solidify their defence and provide much-needed competition for Luke Shaw.
Shaw, in the recently concluded campaign, has endured consistent injury troubles, complemented by Tyrell Malacia barely getting fit all season long. This is where signing Miguel Gutierrez could be pivotal for United, as he not only brings quality but also reliability to the position, which can be crucial for the Manchester Reds.
Can United lure Gutierrez away from Real Madrid’s grip?
A native of Madrid, Miguel Gutierrez started his footballing journey at ADYC before spending a few years with Getafe. However, his rise to prominence came with Real Madrid’s highly acclaimed La Fabrica division. The Spaniard has established himself as one of the best young full-backs in the Spanish top tier since moving to Girona from Real Madrid. The 22-year-old has spent over a decade at Santiago Bernabeu, albeit failing to establish himself in the first-team setup, and Girona, looking at his talent, signed him in the summer of 2022 and has reaped the rewards ever since. Gutierrez has shown strength-to-strength since showing his technical ability and defensive prowess at Estadi Montilivi.
Manchester United have taken notice of his progress and quality as they submit an inquiry for the 22-year-old full-back, per Spanish journalist Rodra P, and will cost around €35 million this summer.
Amid United’s interest, the player is willing to secure a move back to Real Madrid. The Los Blancos already have a buy-back clause of €8 million included in the 22-year-old’s deal, which would be a bargain acquisition as they prepare to replace Fran Garcia if he were to leave Bernabeu this summer.
