Man United star Jonny Evans felt Alejandro Garnacho would only be an impact sub this season
Not many would have envisioned the rapid rise of Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho at Manchester United. The 19-year-old, who moved to United’s Youth Team from Atletico Madrid in 2020, first came under the spotlight for his solo goal in the FA Youth Cup win over Everton in February 2022.
He made his first-team debut in April 2022 and played a squad role for the rest of that season and the following 2022-23 season. This season though, he has been magnifique. He has seven goals and three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions this season.
His role within the squad mushroomed like nobody else could imagine, not even his team-mate Jonny Evans. The Northern Irishman couldn’t have imagined his role extended to this level, let alone other people. Rio Ferdinand reveals the same via his podcast.
Speaking on FIVE, here is what Ferdy had to say:
“I went to Carrington the other day, the training ground, to do some filming.”
“And Jonny Evans said he come back to Man United and obviously sees the players and and you expect ‘x’ from him and him etc.”
“But he said I just thought (Alejandro) Garnacho would be an impact player from the bench, a sub.”
“He said he’s one of our main, if not the go to guy now. And it tells you his development, he’s 19-years-old man.”
Viva Garnacho!
The remarkable development of Garnacho and the youngster’s newfound status as a go-to player for Manchester United is surely a testament to the hard yards he’s putting in.
