Manchester United will face competition from local rivals Man City as they prepare to pursue a La Liga star.

Manchester United failed to beat Man City as the two teams faced off earlier last week. It was Pep Guardiola‘s men who got away with three points after a dominant 3-1 victory over the Red Devils.

United failed to create a lot of choices through open play. Their middle line leaves a lot to be desired and lacks that creative touch. The Old Trafford squad won’t survive much longer if the situation doesn’t change.

Now, Spanish Outlet, Cope Sports (h/t The Sun) reports that Manchester United and Man City will be getting a rematch. However, this one won’t be on the pitch as both teams are going after 27-year-old La Liga star, Mikel Merino.

The Spanish midfielder has played a pivotal role in helping Real Sociedad reach the sixth spot in La Liga. In 36 appearances, he has recorded six goals and five assists. His playmaking is stellar and would be a welcome addition to the United squad.

Moreover, his contract has just one year remaining so singing him would be fairly cheap for the Red Devils. Merino holds the midfield well and is also excellent at locking down passing lanes.

If United hope to sign him they will have to move quickly. Man City has a better project and is a winning team through and through so there’s no debate on the better option.
