Fabrizio Romano talks about Manchester United replacing Erik ten Hag with Zinedine Zidane
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United’s current focus does not involve considering potential replacements for manager Erik ten Hag, despite recent speculation linking former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane with the position.
Romano, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside, provided insights into the situation, suggesting that there have been no direct contacts between Zidane and Manchester United at this stage.
“I’m aware there have been more reports about Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United, with Zinedine Zidane the latest name mentioned as a candidate for that job. I must stress, though, that I’m not aware of contacts between Zidane and Manchester United so far. Nothing is concrete on that, as of now.”
“Let’s see what INEOS decide to do in general in the next months after positive initial discussions with Ten Hag, but Zidane is currently not negotiating with United.”
While there has been uncertainty over Ten Hag’s future because of inconsistent results, including a recent 3-1 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City, Romano says there has been no formal communication between INEOS and Zidane.
The situation at Manchester United is undoubtedly complex, with multiple factors at play. The recent defeat to our city rivals has raised questions about the team’s performance under Ten Hag’s leadership. However, it is clear that United’s hierarchy is not rushing into any decisions regarding the managerial position.
Romano’s mention of positive initial discussions between Ten Hag and INEOS suggests that the club is assessing all options carefully. While Zidane’s name has been mentioned in connection with the role, there is no indication that formal talks have taken place. This indicates that United’s focus is on evaluating the current situation and considering all possibilities before making any definitive decisions.
Irrespective of United’s links with Zidane, the ultimate decision regarding Ten Hag’s future will depend on INEOS’ deliberations in the coming months. There are calls for change and rightly so, but a little bit of backing in the transfer market under new owners might change the fortunes of the Dutchman at the club.
