Erik ten Hag hints at wanting more signings at Manchester United amid injury crisis as he makes ‘depth’ claim

Erik ten Hag says he wants more signings to make up for the lack of ‘depth’ at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag and his troubles with Manchester United during the second campaign are well-documented. Despite the big signings he made during his first and second season the Dutchman has failed to produce the results that were expected of him.

Things were finally starting to look right for once. However, just as he was starting to get comfortable Rasmus Hojlund suffered a muscular injury. Moreover, most of his signings have failed to bear fruit. Mason Mount who was supposed to rectify their midfield deficiencies has also been out due to an injury for most of the season.

Erik ten Hag has always been vocal about his struggle to field a full squad. While it’s no excuse it has played a huge role in their struggles this season. Here’s what he recently said about the team’s injury struggles. (h/t Manchester Evening News)

“Of course that is an issue but other clubs have this and we have to deal with this I feel we can deal with it better but it’s an issue when the depth of the squad… I don’t go into that discussion now.”

But he doesn’t cower behind the injuries, the Dutchman indicated that he expects his team to continuously improve their performance levels. He also spoke about the potential of the team by mentioning the two finals that Manchester United played last season.

He might be on to something with this statement. The Old Trafford squad hasn’t lost a single game in 2024. The Red Devils’ performance since the start of this year has been a good indicator of what this team can achieve when they’re healthy.

The young Dane will miss 2-3 weeks due to a muscular injury.
