David James says that Erik ten Hag ‘still has work to do’ with Manchester United
Manchester United have been on a good run lately, but former Liverpool man, David James, isn’t convinced with their performances. The Red Devils have had a brutal struggle with consistency.
During the first half of the season, the team was struggling to win a single game, let alone win a few in a row. The situation was so bad that the fans had taken to being happy about close draws, one such example was their game against Liverpool, where they barely escaped with a point.
However, ever since 2024 they have not dropped a single game and have won their last five games. Despite their fine form, James isn’t too impressed, let’s have a look at what he had to say while talking to Ggrecon.
“Manchester United still seem to struggle in games for the best part of 45 minutes and that’s something that you shouldn’t expect from a side that has ambitions of qualifying for the Champions League. I think there’s still work for Erik Ten Hag to do.”
Manchester United do get complacent after taking the slimmest of leads
James does make a good point, and the best example of their 45-minute struggle is the game against Luton Town. Rasmus Hojlund struck with precision to give the team a 2-0 lead within the first 15 minutes of the game.
The team got plenty of opportunities to put the game away for good. However, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Bruno Fernandes being in abysmal form that day did the Red Devils no favours as they ultimately failed to convert any of their chances.
If the same game had played out in the exact same way against a team better than Luton, Erik ten Hag and his boys might not have left the stadium with three points on the board and their heads held high.

A lot of work is needed before the Old Trafford squad is ready for the Champions League. Hopefully, Erik ten Hag will be able to make a positive change before the season is over.
