Manchester United could soon be welcoming back their former skipper as Sir Jim Ratcliffe has set his plans into motion.

Manchester United are finally heading in the right direction under the leadership of a new part-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The INEOS chief has highlighted plans to rebuild the squad. Moreover, he also has plans to rebuild the Red Devils’ century-old stadium, Old Trafford.

The petrochemical billionaire has huge plans for the team’s home grounds. The scale of his plans is so grand that many believe that he is building United’s old stadium to become the Wembley of the North.

For those of you who don’t know, Wembley is the largest stadium in the UK, along with being the second largest in all of Europe. It would be appropriate to say that Ratcliffe is building a fortress for the Red Devils in place of a stadium.

As reported by The Athletic (paid subscription), former Manchester United skipper, Gary Neville is set to be part of a committee selected by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Said committee will overlook the reconstruction and regeneration of Old Trafford along with the surrounding area.

Neville’s appointment seems to go beyond his time with the club. The former Red Devil also owns Hotel Football which is close to Old Trafford, thus making him one of the better choices for the job.

Neville has often been critical of the Glazers and has seldom missed an opportunity to call them out whenever something goes wrong at his beloved club, Manchester United.
