Man United were mentioned in Belgian cult hero’s emotional retirement announcement
Former Manchester United midfielder, Marouane Fellaini has announced his retirement from football. After 580 professional football games, the Belgian cult hero has finally decided to hang up his boots.
The 36-year-old left the grounds of Old Trafford back in 2019. He left as a highly decorated member of the Red Devils squad, whose contributions speak for themselves. In 177 appearances, Fellaini recorded a total of 22 goals and 12 assists.
However, what he will be most remembered for will be the bizarre haircut that he used to boast about. During his time at United, the Belgian star won the Europa League, The FA Cup, the English Super Cup and the Premier League title.
His retirement announcement was made through an Instagram post. He mentioned that he was grateful for having the opportunity to compete at such a level. When speaking about Manchester United the Belgian said he was proud to be of service to the club.
The twilight years of Fellaini’s career were spent playing in China. While it may sound like he went there to finish his career. The midfielder actually put up his best numbers during his time in Asia.
Over 141 appearances for the Chinese Super League team, Shandong Taishan, Fellaini recorded a total of 50 goals and 13 assists. If he had put up numbers like this for United, he may have retired in the Premier League.
