Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker accused Marcus Rashford of sabotaging his tenure at the club. Rashford called in sick for training on Friday before the FA Cup clash after partying late at night.

The 26-year-old has faced strong criticism for his lack of contribution this season as United suffered. The Red Devils faced early elimination from the Champions League and the Carabao Cup this season. Furthermore, they are currently seventh in the Premier League table, eight points away from fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Last season, Rashford contributed massively to the team with goals and enjoyed a prolific season with the Red Devils. United fans believed that the Englishman had shrugged off his issues with inconsistency that haunted him at the senior level.

Unfortunately, Rashford suffered similar issues with inconsistency and lack of motivation this season, failing to contribute significantly. He has scored five goals and provided six assists from 27 appearances so far in all competitions.

Critics pointed out Rashford’s selfishness as another problem as he prefers cutting inside and shooting most of the time. The regular use of the same style makes him predictable for the opponents and leaves the teammates frustrated.

The lack of link-up play has also left Rashford’s new teammate Rasmus Hojlund isolated in the central forward position. The 20-year-old struggled to contribute to goals due to a lack of proper services from the flanks.

Speaking to MyBettingSites (h/t Football365), Parker criticized Rashford’s conduct while pointing out his inconsistencies since playing for the senior team. He said:

“I’m fed up with Rashford to be honest… What was I thinking? I was shocked. You have to be shocked, really. On the other hand you shouldn’t be shocked because that’s just what he does. He is a local boy and everyone is expecting him to behave better. He is just carrying on what he has done for a lot of years. He was given an incredible contract and now he is just enjoying his life. He was at a good level during the pandemic but he has ruined everything now. People were still backing him but the majority are just fed up with him now.”

Rashford scored the opening goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the 3-4 Premier League victory at Molineux Stadium. The England international has scored in each of the last three Premier League games despite his off-field conduct.

Nevertheless, Rashford needs to be aware of his off-field conduct, particularly when he has been way below par this season. The 26-year-old is playing at the peak year of his career and under a lucrative contract at United. United’s prestigious reputation demands representation in its best way on and off the pitch.
