Manchester United aim to hand Kobbie Mainoo a new contract after his spectacular start to the senior team’s career
Manchester United envisage securing the services of Kobbie Mainoo with a new contract amid his fantastic senior team start. The 18-year-old received his first-ever senior team start on 26 November against Everton in a 0-3 win at Goodison Park.
The Red Devils beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-4 in a dramatic fashion on Thursday to secure the three points. Mainoo scored the winning goal in the 97th minute of the game, beating three Wolves players before taking the shot.
The youngster’s fantastic goal showed his technique, quality, and composure in a high-pressure situation. Mainoo started the game alongside Casemiro in the double-pivot midfield, showcasing his ability both on and off the ball.
United manager Erik ten Hag opted to use the youngster over Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay. Mainoo made six recoveries (h/t Fotmob) and won every tackle (3) while making two interceptions and 10 defensive actions.
Despite his young age, Mainoo has overtaken many senior players in the pecking order through his consistent performances. The young Englishman rectified the issue of lack of energy in the midfield that the team faced throughout this season.
The 18-year-old has made 13 appearances for the senior team, contributing with 2 goals and 2 assists in all competitions. Mainoo earned the respect of his peers and teammates through his mature displays at the United Academy.
The club earmarks the youngster to follow in the footsteps of many great players as the next best product from the Academy. United Academy developed players like David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Marcus Rashford to earn a global reputation.
Daily Mail (h/t Metro.co.uk) reported that the Red Devils are patient with the new contract offer for Mainoo. They will offer a new contract during the next summer once the current season is over.

If he can continue to show his tremendous form consistently, he will get a deserving contract from the club.
