Manchester United want to extend the contract of the midfielder they wanted to sell last summer
Manchester United and Scott McTominay have had a weird relationship over the years but it could get a new lease of life as the player’s contract runs down. Last summer the Scottish midfielder was constantly linked to a move away from the club. For a moment it looked like his time at Old Trafford could be over.
However, McTominay has come to life since these rumours started swelling up and has even played a key role on Erik ten Hag’s squad this season. In 24 appearances, the 27-year-old has scored six goals while also recording one assist.
The Sun (h\t Skysports) has reported that the Red Devils are looking to extend the player’s contract now. It seems like McTominay’s newfound form has earned him a lot of favour at Old Trafford.
McTominay’s current deal at the club expires during the summer next year. If he can keep up his current form, the 27-year-old is all but guaranteed to extend his stay with the Red Devils.
This decision has the fan base split, some believe that the Scottish midfielder should be extended while most still don’t have faith in his ability.
A few fans still aren’t over McTominay’s missed header against Tottenham. He could have won the game for the Red Devils but ended up missing an open header.
