Transfer Deadline Week | Three realistic Manchester United targets who could salvage the faltering season | Opinion

Manchester United will be facing stiff competition from Real Madrid as both teams are in pursuit of a PL defender

Erik ten Hag could sign these players to save his job and Manchester United’s season

Erik ten Hag has been having a disastrous time at the helm of Manchester United this season. The team has already lost 14 games across all competitions this season.

Moreover, the Red Devils have been knocked out of the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich and they have shared a similar fate with the Carabao Cup this season.

It gets even worse when you have a glance at the Premier League table. Manchester United are currently sitting eighth on the table and are eleven points out of the top four at the time of writing.

Erik ten Hag needs to perform a miracle to save Manchester United's season.

Three realistic transfer targets for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United

As the transfer deadline approaches, Erik ten Hag and his Manchester United have one last chance at salvaging their season by making some new signings. Hopefully, the team will not sit idle like they have for most of January.

Here are three players that could help the Red Devils salvage their season:

1) Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

Manchester United have been linked to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting this season. The team has desperately struggled to score goals this season, because of the horrendous performance from their offensive line.

There’s only so much that young Rasmus Hojlund can do. This is where Choupo-Moting comes in; with an abundance of experience, he is the kind of striker who can make an immediate impact for the Red Devils.

As shown by the data above Maxim is a much better striker than Rasmus Hojlund, who still has a long way to go. Moreover signing the Cameroonian star will also help with the Dane’s development. Choupo-Moting has been tested in a plethora of teams during his career and signing him should be a no-brainer for Manchester United.

2) Andreas Christensen

Manchester United’s defensive line is also in need of some reinforcements if they wish to salvage their season and Andreas Christensen seems to be the perfect candidate for the Red Devils.

The arrival of Pau Cubarsi and the return of Eric Garcia means that Christensen will fall further down the pecking order at Barcelona. Moreover, selling the player would make a lot of sense if you look at the horrible financial situation that Los Cules have found themselves in.

At Manchester United, he would make for an excellent replacement for Jonny Evans. Christensen has won more duels and has completed more passes than the 36-year-old. The Red Devils cannot go wrong with signing the Barcelona defender this January.

3) Michael Olise

Manchester United have already been linked to Michael Olise. The team is reportedly ready to give up Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a summer move. However, now that Bissaka is on the shopping list of both Inter Milan and Al-Nassr, the Red Devils might show some urgency.

The Crystal Palace winger has had a hell of a season scoring five goals and recording an assist in nine games. Much better than Manchester United’s £82m winger Antony who is yet to do anything this season.

The 22-year-old would be the perfect replacement for both Alejandro Garnacho and Antony. His off-ball movement and excellent dribbling will bring some much-needed freshness to the Manchester United attacking line.

Olise is quick, his command over the ball is excellent, and he still has room to grow. He will have an immediate impact and will only get better as time passes on, signing him should be a no-brainer for Manchester United.

Signing these players needs to be an absolute priority for Manchester United at the moment. Erik ten Hag’s team is on the brink of collapse and these three transfers could help him steer the ship around. Hopefully, the Red Devils end up bringing at least one of these players in before February arrives.
