Cameroon have not selected Andre Onana for their must-win game against Gambia
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana must be regretting his decision to go to AFCON this month. It all started when the 27-year-old raced against time to arrive for Cameroon’s opener.
Following the Red Devils’ Premier League tie against Tottenham, the Cameroonian hopped on a flight to participate in the AFCON. However, despite arriving before the game Onana was omitted from the squad.
Cameroon somehow came away with a tie and all was well for a moment. However, things got worse when the Red Devil got his chance in goal. During his first AFCON game, Onana conceded three goals and lost the game for his country.
Gambia’s game tonight is a must-win for the Cameroon team and Onana was probably ready to go ahead of the game. However, much to his disappointment the 27-year-old has been omitted from the starting XI.
If Cameroon loses, Onana could be heading home much sooner than anticipated as his country will get knocked out of AFCON. It seems like all the issues that he has had with the authorities on the Cameroon team have begun to bear fruit.
The 27-year-old holds no sway over the direction of this game and will be sat on the bench as his team fights to stay in the competition. Despite being one of the biggest stars to come out of Cameroon, all Onana can do is watch.
