Manchester United paid a ton of money to keep Andre Onana for Premier League showdown against Tottenham
According to The Athletic, Manchester United paid around £79,000 to keep Andre Onana in the squad for their clash against Tottenham Hotspur. The team had to arrange a private jet for the Cameroonian goalkeeper.
The 27-year-old made the bold decision to appear for the Red Devils and then immediately fly out to participate in Cameroon’s game in the AFCON. However, not all went according to plan for Onana.
Despite arriving in time for the game, the Cameroon team’s head coach decided against fielding the Manchester United man. His strained relationship with the Cameroon team has been well-documented and has probably become worse because of this.

“I have a lot of things to say, but I won’t say it here because we are in competition,”
“The most important thing is sacred union. We are here to win AFCON 2023.”
It seems like despite his rough beginning at the tournament, Onana is determined to turn it around and put on a positive showing for his country. However, Cameroon has had a disastrous start at AFCON.
Out of the two games that the team has played, they have lost one and were able to come away with a tie in the other. Another loss would mean that Onana will have to pack his bags and come back to Manchester United.
Onana’s return would spell bad news for Manchester United goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir. The Turkish keeper is expected to make his debut during Manchester United’s next game, however, if the Cameroonian returns prematurely, Bayindir will end up warming the bench once again.
