Sir Jim Ratcliffe issued a deadline to Manchester United following his bid for a 25% stake in the club
Sir Jim Ratcliffe threatened to withdraw his offer for a 25% stake in Manchester United if a deal wasn’t done by Christmas. INEOS faced competition from Qatari bidder Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani who was also looking to buy the club.
Eventually, the Qatari bidder was forced to drop out after failing to show where his money was coming from as reported by The Guardian. This ramped up negotiations for Sir Jim’s deal.
INEOS finally got the green light on 24th December as a deal was announced for a 25% stake including a $300m investment into the Old Trafford infrastructure.
The fans will be happy to hear that the Glazers did something right for one by not letting INEOS walk away. Everything that the people have seen from Sir Jim so far has been positive.
He has been talking to the fans and held a meeting with MUFC, and even Erik ten Hag said that their meeting was full of positives. Big changes will soon be afoot at Old Trafford as the team fights to regain its former glory.
This is also only the beginning of Ratcliffe’s reign. The real test will come during the summer when the team starts pursuing all the transfer targets that they’ve been racking up.
