James Garner sheds light on the real reason behind his Manchester United exit

James Garner has come into being since his departure from Manchester United. He has been making a lot of heads turn with his performances over at Everton. But many have wondered why he would decide to leave his dream club.

The 22-year-old dreamed of becoming a star at Old Trafford. But, his stint with the Red Devils wasn’t what many expected it to be and ended with him leaving the club back in 2022.

A decision that was made for the benefit of his future. He had always been frustrated with the lack of playing time at Manchester United and believed that the time was right for him to be playing regular minutes.

Let’s take a look at what Garner had to say about the whole situation. (h/t Manchester Evening News)

“I definitely had conversations with him but I’d just come off the back of a good season, probably the best season I possibly could have had so I didn’t want to stagnate and sit on the bench week in, week out,”

He then shed light on his conversation with Erik ten Hag about his future with the team. He says that the Dutchman was honest about things and told Garner that nothing is promised in football.

The 22-year-old believes that he has proved his worth to those who said that he doesn’t belong in the Premier League. This has probably boosted the player’s confidence since his motivation behind the move was to prove himself.

Manchester United run the risk of repeating the same failures as Garner with Hannibal Mejbri. The Tunisian midfielder has joined Sevilla on a loan deal and may never come back to Old Trafford.
