Lothar Matthaus does not believe Manchester United loanee can help German giants save sinking season

German football legend Lothar Matthaus does not believe that Manchester United loanee, Jadon Sancho will help Borussia Dortmund get back on track. The Bundesliga giants have struggled this season.

Dortmund are currently sitting at fifth in the Bundesliga table. They are six points behind number four which is not normal for them. They have also been knocked out of the DFB Cup this year.

Matthaus believes that the team will continue to suffer until they improve their defence. Although he is happy about the signing of Jadon Sancho, he does not expect the team to improve until they work on their defence.

While talking to German publication Ruhr 24, Matthaus explained that Dortmund have placed too much emphasis on their offence which has opened up holes in their defence.

He also shed some light on Sancho’s attitude and hopes that the player has hopefully become a little more mature since his time at Manchester United. Sancho was outcasted from the Old Trafford squad following a public fallout with coach Erik Ten Hag.

The ball is now in the court of the English forward. Everyone is counting him out and for all the right reasons. The only way to prove himself is to perform on the field and Dortmund will be counting on him to do just that.

If Sancho can find his former self in Germany a Manchester United comeback could very well be in the books for him. His future at the club will be evaluated further when he returns during the summer.
