Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane calls out Gary Neville for his hypocrisy
Manchester United icon Roy Keane has not been happy with former teammate Gary Neville’s hypocrisy on managerial positions. On more than one occasion Neville has held the stance that clubs shouldn’t be too quick to sack their managers.
As reported by Independent, he urged the Old Trafford squad to stick with Jose Mourinho when there was talk of him being sacked. Manchester United of course didn’t listen and the manager was quickly disposed of.
Additionally, while speaking to Sky Sports about the situation with Erik Ten Hag he has often defended the manager while calling out the ownership. He believes that all the wrong at Old Trafford stems from the Glazers.
While he defends managers daily, the same could not be said about the managers at his club. Salford City which is co-owned by Gary Neville has sacked five managers within five and a half years.
Let’s have a look at what Roy Keane had to say about this while speaking to Stick to Football. (h\t Mirror)
“Who brought the managers in at Salford?”
“It doesn’t matter if they win a league somewhere else. That’s no good to you, is it?”
Neville replied by saying he is responsible for the hiring of managers along with two others. Keane replied and hinted at his hypocrisy by saying you don’t care whether a manager has won the league somewhere else or not?
This indicates that Neville will sack a manager if he doesn’t work at his club regardless of their accolades.
While he constantly calls out the ownership at Old Trafford for sacking managers, he would do well to remember that he too falls on the same sword as part owner of Salford City.

Well although he has been guilty of the same things, we can’t deny that he is right about Erik Ten Hag. The Dutchman has been dealing with a terrible situation at Old Trafford. The club should give him more time before they decide to axe him.
