Roy Keane singles our Marcus Rashford despite Manchester United defeating Wigan Athletic
Manchester United icon Roy Keane is no stranger to speaking his mind and he has now singled out Marcus Rashford for criticism following the FA Cup win over Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.
Goals from Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes saw the Red Devils secure their spot in the fourth round of the competition. They will now face either Newport County or Eastleigh away from Old Trafford.
In many ways, it is a favourable matchup that could give us a clear path to the fifth round. As long as Erik ten Hag’s men remain true to their ability, it should be a straightforward process.
Despite lasting 92 minutes on the field, Rashford struggled to find the back of the net. The English international has so far found the back of the net just thrice in 25 games across all competitions this season.
Speaking to ITV (h/t Daily Star), Roy Keane has expressed his distaste at Rashford’s performance. The English international certainly tried his best on the night, but poor decision making often let him down. Keane has a good opinion of Rashford and it must be jarring for him to see the attacker struggle.
“There were parts of his game tonight that just frustrated me, and I hope they frustrated his team-mates as well, and they should be saying, ‘Listen, we expect more from you”
Wigan are rungs below United in the footballing pyramid and one would have expected Rashford to make the most of the opportunity. Unfortunately it was not to be and Keane pointed out a few flaws in the 26-year-old’s game.
“He’s got I think one or two bad habits, where he’s stopping the ball and trying the flicks at the wrong time. I don’t think he runs in behind enough.”
It is true that Rashford’s in-game decision making has been found wanting this season. The aura that surrounded him last season is all but gone and it would appear that the United ace is suffering from ‘Yips’. Surely, he is watching Keane and taking notes on how to improve himself; at least we hope he is.

With United struggling for goals, it is imperative that the seniors in the squad step up. The right-wing has been ineffective this season while Rasmus Hojlund continues to fire blanks. If Rashford can rediscover his old self, he will make life easier for Erik ten hag and Manchester United.
