Erik Ten Hag sheds light on Manchester United’s winning mentality as the team beats out Wigan in the FA Cup

Manchester United have advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup after toppling Wigan Athletic last night. This was a much-needed win for the team who have struggled as of late.

There were plenty of positives for Ten Hag to build on from this game. Diogo Dalot gave an early lead to his team after he curved one into the goal during the 22nd minute.

This was later followed up in the second half by a penalty which Bruno Fernandes won and converted for his team. Manchester United almost conceded off of Wigan’s first attack, but the rest of the game was smooth sailing for the Old Trafford squad.

Even though the team came away with a dominant victory, Erik Ten Hag wasn’t overly excited. His winning mentality was on full display as he spoke to the media post-game.

Let’s have a look at what the Dutchman had to say about the team’s performance. (h\t ManUtd.com)

“We created in the first half five or six very good chances. It was, I think, good football and we should have taken more from that, but if you don’t score, you have to stay focused and I think that is also what we did.”

He was satisfied with the team and believed that the margin of victory should have been higher than he was. Considering Manchester United took 33 shots with 14 being on target, Ten Hag isn’t wrong to expect more goals out of his team.

It was overall a very good performance by the Red Devils. Their win in the FA Cup means that they will go on to face either Newport County or Eastleigh F.C. The team cannot falter as this is their last chance at silverware this season.
