Rory McIlroy has revealed the name of Manchester United legend who refused to sign an autograph for him as a child.

While speaking to the panel of The Overlap, professional golfer Rory McIlroy revealed that Manchester United legend Roy Keane refused to sing an autograph for him. He was 12 years old at the time.

While it made for a hilarious segment to talk about the ordeal in front of Keane himself. Rory looked like he was still somewhat hurt by the incident. He mentioned how he looked up to former Red Devils as a hero.

However, McIlroy did mention that it did not leave a lasting impression on him. Keane in his defence said that he must’ve been in a bad mindset at the time. Which honestly sounds like a pretty good reason.

Keane mentioned that he only remembers the hotel where the incident took place, because of the kids running around and ‘annoying’ the players. McIlroy mentioned that he himself has rejected people for autographs at times.

He says that it is just not possible to please everyone, the best you can do is try. While it may look like a big deal to reject a kid for his autograph, we have to understand that professionals have their own lives.

Playing football is just a part of that life and it is more of a job for them. The fame that comes along with it is just a side-effect of their work and we can’t hold it against the players if they don’t wish to sign autographs.
