Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag want versatile left-back Ryan Sessegnon from Tottenham Hotspur to fill multiple roles
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to sign Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ryan Sessegnon to secure the left flank. Sessegnon is capable of playing anywhere in the left wing, making him a perfect utility signing for Ten Hag.
United have faced an injury crisis and a lack of depth in several departments, playing a role in their struggles. They have endured 14 losses out of 28 games in all competitions, resulting in their elimination from two tournaments.
The Red Devils are fighting for the top-four finish, currently at eight, nine points behind the fourth-placed Arsenal. Furthermore, the FA Cup is about to commence and it is the only competition where United can win a trophy.
United needs to use the January window to strengthen their squad while balancing their current goals with future requirements. Independent (h/t Mirror) reported that Ten Hag wants to add Sessegnon to bolster his squad with the left fullback’s versatility.
Sessegnon is an attacking left fullback capable of playing as a left midfielder and left winger as well. The 23-year-old joined Spurs from Fulham with a massive hype for his talent at a very early age. However, he failed to live up to his hype due to various factors, including the struggle of the team.
Even the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte failed at the London club since Sessegnon joined the ranks. The England U21 is still young and has the potential which needs better coaching and guidance.
The 23-year-old has made 57 appearances for Spurs, contributing three goals and four assists so far. He has missed most of the current season after recovering from hamstring surgery during the summer. Sessegnon returned to play in the FA Cup and the expectation is for him to gradually increase his contributions under Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs have faced a similar injury crisis as Man United and Postecoglou would want to keep the players he has. Furthermore, Sessegnon’s pace and direct style of play suits the model Postecoglou has deployed at Spurs. Meanwhile, Ten Hag needs a versatile player like Sessegnon but United would want someone with a better injury record.
