Erik ten Hag reveals Manchester United welcome back two senior superstars in January
Erik ten Hag has been making do with an underequipped Manchester United squad this season. With most of his best players out with injury, the Dutchman has been having a rough time at the helm.
Their campaign started to fall apart after their exit from the Carabao Cup. They were thrashed 3-0 by Newcastle United. The same Magpies that the Red Devils beat in the Carabao Cup finals last season.
Matters took a turn for the worse after their Champions League exit. They were beaten 1-0 by the reigning Bundesliga Champions, Bayern Munich.
Now, with the team desperate for a win Erik ten Hag has finally given hope to the Manchester United fans. He believes that two of their superstars will be returning from injury in January.
This will provide a great boon for the squad as they aim at a top 4 finish in the Premier League. Let’s hear it from the Dutchman’s mouth. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
“Not available before Christmas. In January we expect them back.“
The players in question were Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez. The Brazilian midfielder has only appeared in 12 games this season. Moreover, Martinez has played even less making only six appearances (Transfermarkt).
With the two of these players back the Dutchman can finally put forward a formidable lineup. Martinez is a defensive anchor for the team and Casemiro plays as a defensive midfielder but his eye for attack can be a threat at any time.
Ten Hag also said that he expects Mason Mount and Harry Maguire to be back in January as well.
