Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insisted that he has the backing from the club’s hierarchy ahead of Liverpool showdown

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag claimed he has full confidence of senior figures at United ahead of Liverpool clash. Ten Hag has faced severe criticism as United has suffered numerous setbacks before even reaching halfway through the season.

The Red Devils have already lost 12 games in all competitions, seven of those losses coming at Old Trafford. United’s elimination from the European competition occurred after they finished fourth in the Champions League Group A.

Furthermore, they failed to defend their Carling Cup success of last season after crashing out in the fourth round. United lost 0-3 at Old Trafford against Newcastle United at the start of November, showing a high level of inconsistency.

Ten Hag has failed to build cohesiveness while an injury crisis and poor individual performances played key roles. The Red Devils are sixth in the Premier League table right now, chasing the top-four position as a minimum objective.

Ten Hag told the reporters (h/t Eurosport) that the United’s upper management has full confidence in him. He said:

“I feel that. They tell me. That’s fine and that is OK. I am focusing on the process, I am focusing on making this team play better and making the individuals play better. That is my concern and what I am focusing on.”

Fans and football pundits criticized Ten Hag for forsaking the philosophy that earned him a reputation and success at Ajax. The Dutchman opted to use different tactics and approaches to compensate for the player he has at United.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag has enjoyed freedom in players’ recruitment and he has recruited many of his former pupils. The manager shared history with big-money signings like Antony and Andre Onana who have failed to justify their signings.

Ten Hag faced a man-management crisis as he had a public fallout with players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho. The United boss faced more scrutiny for benching Raphael Varane for a significant period recently during this season. The 53-year-old opted to play left-back Luke Shaw as a make-shift centre-back instead, surprising many United followers.
