Former Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves wants United to go for Dominic Solanke to revive the attacking crisis
According to the Mirror, former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has suggested that the club should go for Dominic Solanke in the upcoming transfer window.
The forwards have only managed to score a total of four goals in the Premier League this season. Out of Erik ten Hag’s attacking lineup, Marcus Rashford is the sole player who has found the back of the net twice.
Hargreaves said:
“I think now Solanke, he will get another big move. Whether it’s Man United or not. But to get a kid that big and technically that good, who is smart enough, can run the channels and press. He will get another chance at the top, I am certain.”
Following spells at Liverpool and Chelsea, it’s fair to say that he didn’t enjoy his time at either of the clubs. In particular, Hargreaves remains positive that Solanke’s spell in the first-team will serve as a useful prelude to his next big chance.
The English forward emerged from the academy at Chelsea but was unable to secure a regular place in the first team. He signed with Liverpool in 2017 after his contract ended at Stamford Bridge, with the Reds eventually paying a £3 million tribunal fee for the player.
Once more, we suffered a crushing 3-0 loss at home to Bournemouth on Saturday. Solanke, 26, proved to be a constant threat to Ten Hag’s defence and even managed to score his eighth league goal of the season. Solanke’s impressive record for the Cherries includes 65 goals and 28 assists in 193 games.
Under these conditions, it is evident that United would reap a lot of benefits by recruiting other strikers so as to score more goals in this season. So far, this campaign, we have only managed to score 18 goals in the Premier League, which ranks us 15th on the goal scoring chart of the current season.
Solanke’s recent performances have been impressive, and he had positive things to say about United after contributing to their ongoing struggles by performing well for Bournemouth on Saturday.
