Manchester United will have a tough time trying to recover the £73 million that they paid for Jadon Sancho. With an outright sale unlikely, the team is now looking to offload the English winger in a swap deal for Barcelona star Raphinha, as reported by Spanish publication SPORT.

Back when Sancho was on the market, FC Barcelona were among the many clubs looking to sign him. However, Barca couldn’t formalize a deal for the English winger.

The Red Devils are now looking to complete a deal for Raphinha before he finds his mojo in Spain. The former Leeds United forward is yet to set the stage alight for Xavi Hernandez’s team. A deal finalizing seems unlikely though, since Sancho’s stint in England has been nothing short of disastrous.

The signing of Raphinha will surely be a step in the right direction for Erik Ten Hag’s team. However, the Catalan club will probably not risk losing a player like Raphinha.

In 65 appearances for Barca the Brazilian winger has recorded 12 goals and provided 17 assists which are some pretty solid numbers (transfermarkt). He has had a rough patch of late, but Xavi still trusts him.

On the other hand, Jadon Sancho’s stint with the Red Devils has been the complete opposite and calling it a disaster would not be an exaggeration. The 23-year-old has refused to apologize to Ten Hag, a move that has resulted in exile for him.

Marcus Rashford is another player that was previously linked with a swap deal for Raphinha. With the fall in Rashford’s form, this is another transfer that will most likely never materialize.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have no plans to move Raphinha on this January. The only way that the Catalans will let go of the Brazilian is if they can get a player better than him this summer.

Manchester United fans could be excited because Raphinha playing at Old Trafford after previously rejecting Arsenal would have been a welcome sight. With the signing of Raphinha unlikely, it is time for the team to set their sights on other targets that they actually have a chance at acquiring.
