Former Manchester United striker Alan Brazil wants Aaron Ramsdale to replace Andre Onana after his recurring mistakes
According to talkSPORT (h/t Manchester Evening News), former Manchester United striker Alan Brazil has suggested Aaron Ramsdale as a replacement for Andre Onana as United’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Onana, 27, had a disappointing performance on November 29 when Erik ten Hag’s team drew 3-3 with Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League. The Cameroonian custodian’s performance was shaky, notably failing to save free kicks from Hakim Ziyech that seemed saveable.
Alan Brazil said:
“Onana is an accident waiting to happen – what about Ramsdale at Manchester United? I think if Ramsdale wants to go, he’ll get a move. He’s not playing. There’s a new owner coming in now, he’s putting in £1.3bn, he might say: ‘Right, I’m now in charge of transfers – he goes. We’re not going to win anything with him.”
Consequently, debates have emerged regarding his position as Manchester United’s top goalkeeper. Since his transfer from Inter Milan in the summer, he has made 20 appearances across various competitions, securing seven clean sheets impressively.
With David Raya taking over from Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal, Alan Brazil believes Ramsdale could be an excellent fit for United. Raya has been the Gunners’ leading goalkeeper since his move from Sheffield United in 2021.
Prior to this match, Onana had made three critical errors in all competitions since joining United in the summer. In the opening Champions League game, the Cameroon international’s mistake led to Bayern Munich scoring their first goal.
United are in a precarious position where there is no margin for error. Qualifying for the Champions League seems almost impossible. The match in Istanbul highlighted both Onana’s exceptional and disappointing moments. While United’s midfield play was outstanding, the goalkeeping was not up to the mark.
