Manchester United are planning to replace both Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat during the January transfer window

Manchester United are already looking to replace both Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat by adding a midfielder during January. The duo has failed to live up to the expectations at United since signing for the club during the summer.

Right before the end of the November international break, Mount sustained another injury, currently sidelining him. United manager Erik ten Hag signed the England international as a priority during the summer to add energy and creativity.

Ten Hag deployed Mount in a deeper role contrary to the attacking role he played during his tenure at Chelsea. The 24-year-old started the first two games of the season but suffered an injury against Tottenham Hotspur in August.

Mount returned from his first injury after the September international break but failed to make a significant impact. The Englishman has only played a full 90 minutes in just one game for the Red Devils this season.

The 24-year-old played the full game against Newcastle United in United’s 3-0 Carabao Cup loss at Old Trafford. Mount failed to create any threat for the home team despite the possessional dominance over the Magpies. Furthermore, Timo Livramento left the former Chelsea man embarrassed after beating him easily and assisting for the first goal.

Meanwhile, Amrabat joined the club during the deadline day in a season-long loan deal from Fiorentina. The Morocco international joined the club while recuperating from an injury, returning as a late substitute against Burnley in September.

Ten Hag has deployed Amrabat as a make-shift left-back and also in his natural position as a defensive midfielder. However, the 27-year-old has failed to justify his claim as a starting midfielder with mediocre performances.

Just like Mount, Amrabat fell down the pecking order and has featured as a substitute for the Red Devils. The United manager has utilized in-form players like Scott McTominay and Kobbie Mainoo over the Morocco international.

Guardian reported that United are keen to sign a new number 8 to bolster the midfield. The failure of both Amrabat and Mount has hampered United’s season significantly and they cannot afford to continue like this.

United are currently missing Christian Eriksen and Casemiro due to injuries sidelining them. The congested fixture in December can provide both Amrabat and Mount ample opportunities to redeem their United career. However, Mount’s current injury has left his estimated return surrounded by speculation.
