Manchester United show interest in signing Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel to replace the struggling goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Manchester United are keen to sign Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel to replace the error-prone Andre Onana. Onana suffered two howlers in the must-win Champions League Group A game against Galatasaray, costing his team a victory.
The 27-year-old survived a mistake in his very first Premier League game against Wolves when he clattered with Sassa Kalajdzic. Officials somehow cleared the keeper from the clear foul as United won the game 1-0. Onana made another mistake in the first Champions League Group A game against Bayern Munich for their opening goal.
The Cameroonian made two more high-profile errors against Galatasaray at home and Brentford. Nevertheless, Onana’s two massive errors from Hakim Ziyech’s free-kick on Wednesday are the costliest ones he has made so far.
The Red Devils drew 3-3 against Galatasaray despite building a comfortable two-goal lead. United are currently fourth in the Champions League Group A and needed a win before their final fixture against Bayern. Now, they need to beat Bayern at Old Trafford, hoping that FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray have a stalemate.
The Italian publication Calciomercato reported Manchester United’s interest in the on-form Lazio goalkeeper Provedel to replace their error-prone Cameroonian. Provedel played a pivotal role for Lazio this season, helping them qualify for the Champions League knockout stage.
The 29-year-old stole the spotlight in the Champions League game against Atletico Madrid in September. Lazio needed a goal to equalize when the Italian stepped up and scored a cracking header in the 95th minute.
United manager Erik ten Hag appointed Onana as the successor to the legendary goalkeeper David De Gea. De Gea himself succeeded a United legend in Edwin van der Sar and served the club for 12 years.
