Former Manchester United player Dimitar Berbatov believes that the derby can end in 1-1 draw
Speaking to the Metro, former Manchester United player Dimitar Berbatov, believes that United might manage a 1-1 draw against the former Champions Manchester City this weekend.
However, Berbatov also indicated that United can’t play care-free football like they did against FC Copenhagen. A team like United should win games by a big goal margin rather than relying on the defender to score the only goal and on the goalkeeper to save a last-minute penalty.
“Let me tell you something… If United allow the same freedom like they did against Copenhagen to City, they are going to suffer.”
“There are teams when you play against them, you can afford to make mistakes because you know if there’s a lack of quality in the opposition, they are not going to take advantage of the mistakes you’re making. But then there are teams when you know if you make half of a mistake they will punish you – teams like City. You need to be 100 per cent more concentrated against City.”
“I’ll go for a draw. Hopefully, if United don’t make silly mistakes and they can get a surprising win.”
“1-1”
Last time out, United suffered a hefty defeat at the Etihad with a 6-3 scoreline. Berbatov thinks that if United holds onto their composure for the entire duration of the game then a draw or a win can be a result.
To win the Manchester Derby we need all our players to give more than 100%. Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and other attacking wingers need to threaten their defence. Rashford’s performance has drawn harsh criticism because the form hasn’t continued from last season. The 25-year-old overcame years of inconsistent play to top United’s goalscoring charts last season.
Rashford tends to rely more on cutting inside and shooting, which can occasionally make him predictable. The 25-year-old can outpace players and score with his tremendous pace, close control, and dribbling ability. But, we believe Rashford can make a bigger impact if he incorporates more unpredictability into his play. Sometimes he can help his teammates by going down the byline, which throws the opposition off-guard.
However, now that Rafael Varane and Sergio Reguilon are back, we believe we can play better in defence than we did while they were injured. Our new signing Sofyan Amrabat might finally get a chance to play in his natural position since Casemiro might be out due to an injury he faced while featuring for Brazil.
