Manchester United midfielder Casemiro will be unavailable for the Champions League clash against Copenhagen despite returning from injury
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has returned to Carrington to train with his teammates before Tuesday’s clash against F.C. Copenhagen. However, the 31-year-old will not be in the matchday squad due to the suspension he is serving.
The Brazil national team captain received a red card in his previous Champions League game against Galatasaray. United lost the game 2-3 at Old Trafford after Casemiro’s poor tackle on Dries Mertens inside the United’s box.
Casemiro’s red card in the 77th minute altered the complexion of the game with the score at 2-2. The Turkish side became more adventurous and grew in confidence to find the winner in the 81st minute. The Red Devils are currently fourth in the Champions League Group A table with zero points.
Casemiro has appeared in 11 matches for United in all competitions so far this season The Brazilian is surprisingly leading the club’s goalscoring chart for this season and has contributed four goals and an assist.
However, the 31-year-old has received stern criticism from fans and football pundits for his overall gameplay. The Brazil international has struggled to secure the backline from narrow attacks from opposition midfielders. Many critics have pointed out that the 31-year-old is losing his pace and energy to live up to the demands. Manager Erik ten Hag has complete trust in Casemiro as he continues to be a regular in the starting lineup.
United signed Casemiro from Spanish giants Real Madrid during the 2022 summer transfer window. The Brazilian was part of the famous era for Madrid where they won four consecutive Champions League trophies. Casemiro won five Champions League trophies with the Spanish club before joining the Red Devils.
Casemiro started his career with United in a spectacular fashion and solidified his place in Ten Hag’s first season. The Brazilian scored the opening goal in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United last season which ended in victory. Carabao Cup success ended the six-year trophy drought for the Red Devils.
Manchester Evening News reported that Casemiro will serve his suspension against Copenhagen and he will return in the games that follow. The Brazilian international sustained a knock during the October international break while playing for his country against Venezuela. The 31-year-old missed the last game against Sheffield United due to the injury.
