Liverpool to challenge Manchester United for Schalke star Assan Ouedraogo
Manchester United target Assan Ouedraogo continues to grab the imagination of onlookers at FC Schalke and our arch-rivals Liverpool have now waded into the conversation regarding his transfer.
Just 17, he is already a regular for Schalke and has amassed 10 appearances for them in the second tier of German football this season. It is fair to say that his performances have caused considerable buzz and Ouedraogo is subject to much interest from England.
A central midfielder, the German youth international is adept going forward. He can don the role of a number 10 or a left-winger if needed, showing incredible versatility that can be adapted to the situation.
The teenager is a reliable dribbler and can get the ball forward with ease. His passing range is promising and with the right guidance, he could develop into a tour-de-force in the attacking role.
This bit of attacking impetus from the middle of the park will be something that the Red Devils need. Christian Eriksen is far from young while Mason Mount is still learning the tricks of the trade in Erik ten Hag’s system. By bringing in Ouedraogo, we should more or less future-proof the role.
A familiar rival!
According to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News), Liverpool will challenge the Red Devils to the German starlet. The Merseysiders have been quietly going about rebuilding their squad and are putting together a young side that can challenge for years to come.
Jurgen Klopp’s second great side is taking shape and the largely impressive midfield rebuild last summer is proof of it. By signing Assan Ouedraogo, United will not just be landing themselves a solid player but also denying their arch-rivals a star in the making.
Liverpool have in the past beaten us to the signings of Thiago Alcantara, Darwin Nunez, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo. Hopefully, we can be the ones to create a dent in the competition regarding the Schalke man.
