Manchester United face tough competition from West Ham United and Chelsea to sign Palmeiras wonderkid Luis Guilherme
Manchester United must act swiftly to beat West Ham United and Chelsea in the race to sign Luis Guilherme. The 17-year-old prodigy has climbed his way from Palmeiras academy into the Brazilian side’s senior team this year.
The FIFA U17 World Cup, set to commence on November 10, will feature the participation of the Brazilian U20 prodigy. The Brazilian has attracted interest from many top clubs from Europe.
Guilherme is an attacking midfielder who has so far operated on the flanks for his club. The 17-year-old is versatile enough to play in either flank but likes to operate inside the opposition’s channel. The Brazilian has shown impressive technical ability on the ball and good decision-making.
Guilherme has impressive pace and dribbling ability while his first touch stands out the most. The youngster is capable of controlling the ball even in pressure situations or according to the direction he wants.
The 17-year-old still has a long way to go to adapt to the physical demand in the top leagues. Guilherme has made 24 appearances for Palmieras so far and contributed to one assist. The Brazilian prodigy has only started five of those games while appearing mostly as a substitute.
Premier League Brasil (h/t Manchester Evening News) reported that Chelsea and West Ham are ahead of the Red Devils. The report also states that the interested parties have received instructions to submit their offers before the commencement of the U17 World Cup.
United are currently facing a shortage in many departments within their senior team and needs to prioritize their investment there. The injury crisis and limited option for manager Erik ten Hag has crippled the current season for the Red Devils. United have lost six out of 11 matches in all competitions as they failed to find any consistency in results.
