Willem van Hanegam believes Santigo Gimenez is worthy of being a Manchester United player
According to Manchester Evening News, Willem van Hanegem the legendary striker for Feyenoord believes that Santiago Gimenez has the potential to play for either Real Madrid or Manchester United in the future.
Gimenez’s start for Feyenoord in the Dutch League (Eredivisie) was simply electrifying when he managed to find the back of the net twelve times within his first eight matches and contributed with a couple of assists. Since then, he has transformed into one of the hottest strikers in Europe.
Willem van Hanegam said:
“He will only remain at Feyenoord for the time being. Everyone likes him very much; he doesn’t get nervous when he misses an opportunity.
“He doesn’t get desperate, for example, he could have made 15 or 16 (goals) already. That’s how you look at him, because he has those qualities.
“He doesn’t get stuck in it, that’s a sign that things are going well in his head. He remains calm, he knows he will be a top scorer.”
Rasmus Hojlund, who joined the Red Devils from Atlanta, is currently the clear starter up front. He has already scored three goals in the Champions League.
The 20-year-old has the ability to rise to the top, but manager Erik ten Hag could prefer a strong rival in the future given Anthony Martial’s lacklustre performance.
He has been a regular off the bench for the Red Devils this season, although he hasn’t really made a difference. In this scenario, United may rationally think about making a move for Gimenez. Feyenoord who are trying to sell him, are asking for about £43 million, so he won’t be cheap.
It would be great if a player of his calibre joined us. United need a goal-scoring machine at the moment and Santiago Gimenez’s involvement can greatly accelerate that. Marcus Rashford can also benefit from his presence.
