Anthony Elanga doesn’t see much difference between his new club Nottingham Forest and Manchester United
Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga stated that there is not much difference between his new club and Manchester United. The Sweden international originates from the highly reputed United Academy.
The 21-year-old signed for the Red Devils academy in July 2018 and earned his wait to the first team. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former United boss, impressed with Elanga’s performance at the U21 level and subsequently promoted the Swede.
The Sweden international played his first senior game on 11th May 2021 during the 2-1 defeat to Leicester City. The 21-year-old scored his first professional goal in his second game for the Red Devils against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Elanga told Fotbollskanalen (h/t Manchester Evening News) that his new club is similar to the United in terms of history. He said:
“Nottingham are still a great team historically. They have won two Champions Leagues. So, you could say I’ve gone from one big team to another big team. The difference isn’t that big.”
Nottingham signed Elanga from United during the last summer transfer window for £15mil. The 21-year-old has so far appeared in nine matches in all competitions while contributing one goal and one assist.
The 21-year-old scored four goals and four assists in 55 games for the Red Devils during his time at the club.
Elanga, a right-footed player, chooses to operate on the left wing, demonstrating his ability to cut inside effectively from that position. The Sweden international is versatile enough to play on either flank and possesses strong dribbling ability and speed.
Elanga’s current club is currently in 13th place in the Premier League and three points behind United after eight games. The Red Devils have suffered from a very inconsistent season losing six games in 11 matches in all competitions.

The Red Devils were content with selling the 21-year-old as left-winger Marcus Rashford was in tremendous form last season. The Englishman was the highest goal scorer for United last season and everyone expected him to continue his run. However, Rashford has struggled with form this season and the Red Devils could’ve used Elanga. We think United need to use the transfer window to recruit more attackers as they lack numbers in that department.
