Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is considering his future at the club due to lack of game time after a failed summer move to Real Madrid
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is considering leaving Old Trafford due to a lack of playing opportunities following a failed move to Real Madrid last summer. The Frenchman has been unable to stake his claim into the starting eleven under the manager Erik ten Hag after the failure of a potential summer deal with Real Madrid.
United signed Rasmus Hojlund from Serie A side Atalanta during the summer transfer window to be the primary striker. The Danish forward has delivered promising performances, demonstrating his reliability as a regular choice.
The 27-year-old missed about 27 matches due to numerous injuries during the 2022-23 season. The France international is acting as a backup to the first-team choices as he has fallen down the pecking order.
Martial has featured in nine games for the Red Devils so far this season but never completed the full 90 minutes. The Frenchman has been poor whenever he has received the starting role for United this season. The 27-year-old has contributed to only one goal and an assist this season in all competitions.
United signed Martial from Monaco in the 2015 summer transfer window but he has failed to live up to his potential. United broke the record for the highest transfer fee paid for a teenager at that moment in time.
Martial’s struggle was parallel with the struggle of the Red Devils to maintain the tradition of success and trophies. Injuries and inconsistency plagued the Frenchman throughout his United career.
Fichajes (h/t Daily Mail) reported that the Red Devils offered Martial to Spanish giants Madrid on loan. The reported deal had an option to buy the 27-year-old permanently for £12.8million (€15million). The deal offered on 28th August 2023, just before the deadline day, never became fruitful and the Frenchman stayed put.
Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News) claims that Martial does not want to continue as a back-up at United next season. The Frenchman’s contract runs out on June 30th, 2024 (h/t Transfermarkt).

Martial has not grabbed the opportunity given to him by Ten Hag and it seems the time is running out. The Frenchman is in the prime years of his career and needs to play where he is the primary striker. We think it will be mutually beneficial for both the club and the player if he chooses to depart.
