Manchester United forward Anthony Martial rejected the only realistic offer that came for the player during the summer transfer window.
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial rejected the offer of an unknown Saudi Pro League club during the summer. The Red Devils were willing to listen to the offers for the Frenchman but he didn’t generate enough interest.
The 27-year-old has failed to solidify his spot in the starting role under the current manager Erik ten Hag. Martial has been very poor with his performances this season whenever he has received an opportunity to impress.
United signed Rasmus Hojlund from Serie A club Atalanta to be their primary forward during the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old has impressed the Old Trafford fans and United staff with impressive performances. Initially acquired as a long-term project, the Danish international now seems comfortable taking an immediate lead in the attack.
The Red Devils signed Martial from Ligue 1 side Monaco during the summer transfer window of 2015. The English giants broke the record for the highest transfer fee paid for a teenager during that moment in time.
Injuries and inconsistencies have plagued the Frenchman’s time at United, preventing him from living up to the hype. During the last season, the 27-year-old missed 27 matches due to different injuries, hampering the trust of a new manager.
The France international currently serves as a backup to the first team. Martial has only featured in nine games for the Red Devils this season without playing the complete game.
Daily Mail reported that United offered Martial to Real Madrid in a loan deal during the summer transfer window. The deal had the option to buy the Frenchman permanently for £12.8million (€15 million) but Madrid opted against accepting the offer.
ESPN reported that a club from the Saudi Pro League made the only realistic offer, but Martial rejected it. The Frenchman is currently in the last season of his contract as it runs until June 30th, 2024 (h/t transfermarkt).

The Red Devils cannot afford to lose the senior team members as free agents when they need to raise funds. United resorted to loan deals during the deadline day because of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. However, Martial’s problems with injuries and inconsistencies have made it hard for him to attract any mutually beneficial interest. We are yet to see if United will opt to trigger the one-year extension in Martial’s contract to profit from the player.
