Manchester United could enter the race with Arsenal to go for Brentford striker Ivan Toney
According to the Mirror, Manchester United could show interest in Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the upcoming transfer window.
Toney, a key player in Brentford’s Premier League victory, faced suspension back in May after getting caught for betting. Toney has made 66 top-flight appearances for the Bees and, predictably, has been linked to major moves elsewhere after scoring 21 goals for Thomas Frank’s side last season.
Thomas Frank has mentioned that they would be willing to sell him to a team that matches their asking price.
He said:
“I think every club in the world are a selling club except five or six clubs. “We are a selling club, if the right price is there and I think it’s the right time for the players to go. That’s not my decision, that would be down to [director of football] Phil [Giles] or [chairman] Matthew [Benham] in the end. But I think if players have developed well with us and been on the journey, and they’ve proven good enough to go to the top clubs, then I think it’s the right thing, if we get the right price.
United needs more attacking options. Marcus Rashford’s form this season has been underwhelming. To improve the team’s goal-scoring, a prolific striker is essential.
Erik ten Hag has Anthony Martial as the second natural number nine, but the French national has struggled with fitness issues over the past year, with a poor track record.
United must be more mobile in the offensive third of the pitch. Toney is a versatile player who can boost scoring opportunities for others.
Nonetheless, it’s undeniable that Toney has grown stronger with time. He is an established Premier League forward and won’t need time to settle in.
