Everton offer Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite a new contract
According to Fabrizio Romano’s latest tweet on X, Manchester United target Jarrad Branthwaite will sign a new deal with Everton.
Everton manager Sean Dyche confirmed that the club are closing in on a new contract with the defender:
“I think things are probably close now, we have been speaking to him for a while”.
Under Ruud van Nistelrooy, Branthwaite played for PSV Eindhoven in 36 games during his loan spell there. It was also because of his exceptional performances that they were able to win the KNVB Cup. The young player was given a chance by Sean Dyche’s Everton club and has since thrived, appearing 19 times for them.
In what appears to be yet another battle for Premier League survival for the Toffees, the 21-year-old has established himself as one of Everton’s top players this year. He was purchased by Everton from Carlisle United in 2020 for £1 million, and thus far, he has been performing admirably.
Everton have been eager to provide fresh terms to the player for quite some time to reward the progress Branthwaite is making. His current deal has two years left with an option for a third (Transfermarkt).
United were indeed interested in Branthwaite, according to Daily Mail. However, the likelihood of him signing a new contract with Everton makes it less likely that he will join the Red Devils.
Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez have been ruled out for a long period of time. United now have an injury crisis and bringing in a new defender is extremely necessary to produce some fruitful results.
Branthwaite is a player with a lot of potential. If not now, it is only a matter of time before he is linked with the likes of Manchester United and other top clubs again.
Due to the long-term absences of Tyrell Malacia, Sergio Reguilon, and Lisandro Martinez, United are in desperate need of a backup defender. Ten Hag has limited options because Raphael Varane has had fitness issues as well.
