Antony can feature in the game against Galatasaray, says Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag
According to the Mirror, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag confirms that Antony is back at training and can feature against Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Ten Hag said:
“Antony will be in consideration but yesterday was his first time back in team training. We have a final training, then we’ll make a decision.”
The winger was interviewed by Greater Manchester Police last week regarding allegations of physical assault.
Detectives questioned the Brazilian for five hours; United had given him a leave of absence to address the accusations, which he rejected. Despite missing their last five games, the 23-year-old is back in training and available for selection.
It is important for the club to get Antony back since there was a major crisis on the attacking wings. Jadon Sancho‘s absence from the squad also hampered the results as United lost yet again in the league against Crystal Palace.
Antony disputes the claims made against him, has not been detained or charged in connection with them in the UK or Brazil, and is continuing to give full cooperation to both countries’ investigations.
According to insider sources close to the footballer, he has offered proof to back up his vehement denials of the accusations levelled against him.
Antony responded on social media by stating that:
“I can calmly state that the accusations are false and that the evidence already produced and the other evidence that will be produced demonstrate that I am innocent of the accusations made.”
As United had their worst league start in 34 years, Antony watched Saturday’s defeat to Crystal Palace from the stands at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag’s team also desperately needs a victory to restart their Champions League campaign after losing the first match to Bayern Munich two weeks ago.
Antony is currently not adjudged to be guilty, so it makes sense to keep him in the squad. Ten Hag obviously had faith in himself since he took the crucial decision to include the Brazilian in United’s crucial midweek match.

It will now be interesting to see if Ten Hag offers him the opportunity to play in this match and how both sets of fans react. It would be a difficult game for the Brazilian star to make his return in, given how crucial our UEFA Champions League games are this season.
Each game is important because we are currently trying to reclaim our identity as one of the UCL favourites and one of Europe’s most feared teams. The eyes of the world will be upon us and hopefully, Antony can bring his focus onto the game and help us over the line.
In Jadon Sancho’s potential absence, it is crucial that we have experience, with both Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri in their formative stages.
