Arsenal are looking to beat Manchester United to the signing of Marcos Leonardo

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United may suffer a setback in their pursuit of another striker after Arsenal have entered the race for Santos forward Marcos Leonardo.

Both Manchester United and Italian team Roma had the forward on their radar, but it looks like Arsenal has entered the fight for his signature and might jump ahead in the queue and potentially deal a blow to us.

It is understandable that Arsenal are looking at an adventurous young talent like Santos. Given his performances and his immense ceiling, it was only a matter of time before the player courted European interest and Arsenal do not want Man United to have a free run at such a talented player.

But given that United haven’t been able to consistently score goals this year, it’s hardly surprising that Ten Hag’s team has been linked with new strikers. Yes, Rasmus Hojlund has made a great start but it’s too early. The lesser said about Antony Martial, the better.

Since Leonardo, 20, has been performing well for the Brazilian team, he has been considered as a possible target for United. In 36 appearances across all competitions last season, Marcos has scored 19 goals and provided 4 assists. Not bad for someone of his age.

Rasmus Hojlund, the new centre-forward for United, was acquired from Atalanta for a £72 million transfer price during the summer transfer window. He is undoubtedly the club’s future for the forward line but we need competition.

Back in the summer, a number of players were mentioned as potential targets for United, including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur, who ultimately moved to Bayern Munich.

Hojlund’s first few weeks at United were cut short by injury, and he has scored just once overall since his summer transfer. It’s a very bleak start to another season and United might need a reliable back-up player to Hojlund.

Arsenal are no pushovers in the transfer market and truth be told, they have a more competitive team than us now. If we want Leonardo, we need to put the effort for that and hope he sees potential in us. Let’s see how this one goes.
