RB Leipzig’s forward, Benjamin Sesko, confirmed that he was not involved in talks with Manchester United this summer. He ultimately opted for a move to Germany, believing it would be more beneficial for his career.

The Slovenian striker made his switch to the German club during the summer for a fee of approximately £20 million.

He had agreed to the terms of the transfer a year earlier when he was part of RB Salzburg, a sister club to Leipzig.

While playing in the Austrian Bundesliga, Sesko scored 21 goals in 55 league matches and also participated in 12 Champions League games.

Man United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, had been in search of a top-tier striker to lead the team’s attack this season. However, his primary target, Harry Kane, ended up joining Bayern Munich from Tottenham, leaving the Red Devils without their desired option.

It’s worth noting that the football director, John Murtough, had previously been in contact with Sesko’s representatives during the summer, and even this year, there were rumours linking the 20-year-old striker with a move to United.

The striker has now stated that he did not consider a transfer to Old Trafford, as that was not the best option for his career at this moment. He instead joined Leipzig to help him develop further.

While speaking to Transfermarkt (h/t the Express), he said:

“The thing is, I wasn’t really involved in these kinds of conversations. But I think it was better to come here. It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football.”

The striker wasted no time in leaving a mark at his new German club, finding the back of the net three times in just six matches across various competitions. Furthermore, Sesko has made a huge difference within his national team, boasting an impressive record of seven goals in 22 appearances for his country.

Meanwhile, Man United secured the services of Rasmus Hojlund with a £72m deal with Atalanta this summer. The Danish ace made his debut for the club in a 3-1 loss to Arsenal.

He later scored his first goal for the Red Devils in a Champions League match against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. Even Sesko reacted to Hojlund’s signing by the English giants.

The former Atalanta star is attracting a huge fan base at his new club due to his powerful finishing skills, ability to come into goalscoring possession, and strong weak foot.

There is ample opportunity for growth, and there’s a favourable timeframe for him to develop into a top-class striker while wearing the United jersey.

He should not feel the heat to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League, considering his solid physical attributes. The club’s management hopes that Hojlund will make a huge impact and not make them regret losing out on Sesko.
