Manchester United could re-ignite interest in 28-year-old Serie A midfield star

Manchester United might once again try to sign Juventus ace Adrien Rabiot

According to Calciomercato (h/t Manchester Evening News), Juventus star Adrien Rabiot is once again expected to be on the Manchester United transfer wish list for the 2024 summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have, however, been in a similar situation before, only for the France midfielder to opt for Juventus while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge. Rabiot is a tad inconsistent but has shown the ability to be a star man at Juventus.

The French midfielder has been linked with the Red Devils since his days at Paris Saint-Germain. Rabiot recently signed a one-year deal despite rumours of a potential exit from Turin earlier this summer. With the window now shut, all parties will need to wait until next year to rekindle the transfer.

His contract expires in 2024, though, and a move next summer is very plausible. Ten Hag is a fan of Rabiot, who last season reinvented himself in a rather underwhelming Juventus side.

Since moving to Old Trafford, the Dutch manager has made investments in a number of fresh players in the middle of the park, but he hasn’t taken his eyes off Rabiot. Numerous clubs in Europe are interested in the Frenchman, but Manchester United have chased him for long and it can be argued that they could be in the driver’s seat.

Rabiot made a name for himself at PSG after graduating from their academy and claimed five Ligue 1 championships in seven years. In 227 games for the French behemoths, the midfielder scored 24 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.

Rabiot has a history of playing for top-tier European teams, including a star-stacked French national side. Rabiot certainly has some aspects of his game that might benefit United, including the ability to drift out wide on the left to stretch opposition defences.

The 28-year-old is in the prime of his career and could do with a fresh challenge. Manchester United, for their part, need difference-makers in the middle of the park. Rabiot is worth the risk if Ten Hag is sold on his abilities.
