Manchester United could sign Tottenham loanee Sergio Reguilon on a permanent deal
Fabrizio Romano said on The United Stand YouTube channel that Tottenham Hotspur loanee Sergio Reguilon could be a permanent signing for Manchester United in the 2024 summer transfer window.
Looking at the confidence that the Spaniard has at the moment, it seems that United will be keen to retain him if the same level of performance persists. Romano also confirmed that the player is happy with his new surroundings and manager.
Reguilon agreed to a season-long loan arrangement with United on the final day of the 2023 summer transfer window. Given his situation at Spurs, it made sense for him to move on.
Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan Bissaka are all injured, leaving Ten Hag already short on left backs. Reguilon was brought on board late in the summer but has taken his opportunity with both hands.
Although he had prior experience in this fiercely competitive league, it takes nerves of steel to don the jersey of Manchester United and impress despite having limited experience with new teammates.
Fabrizio added that there are no preparations for Tottenham Hotspur to fulfil the Spanish defenders’ wish to play in North London. This provides United with a big boost to simply sign a long-term contract without making the deal too difficult. Surely, it’s a win for all parties.
Making a position your own in a new system is not simple. Although Reguilon is not Manchester United’s first-choice left-back, he is progressively establishing himself as a solid backup and can even get the nod if he continues to perform.
