Manchester United are big fans of Royal Antwerp wonderkid Arthur Vermeeren, as they plan a future more

According to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t the Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are monitoring the progress of 18-year-old Royal Antwerp star Arthur Vermeeren.

The young midfielder has impressed with his performances at the Belgian club this season, attracting interest from several other teams.

Vermeeran, who started his youth career at Lierse SK, has gained a lot of recognition since his move to the Jupiler Pro League side.

He progressed through the club’s youth system and earned a spot in the first-team squad during the early stages of the 2023-24 season.

So far this season, he has featured in nine matches for his club and contributed two assists. Surprisingly, his impressive development has attracted the interest of prestigious clubs like Barcelona and Man United.

It is said that West Ham United, AS Monaco, and Borussia Dortmund have also closely monitored the player.

The Red Devils would be looking to strengthen their midfield, especially given the uncertainties regarding Scott McTominay and the fact that Casemiro is now in his thirties.

The return of Christian Eriksen has somewhat addressed these midfield concerns, but it’s worth noting that the Danish ace isn’t as effective defensively and during transitions.

Meanwhile, Casemiro has yet to perform at his best this season and appears to require support, which Sofyan Amrabat can potentially provide once he’s fit to start games for the team.

However, Ten Hag would need to plan for the future, especially given former Real Madrid star’s age, and would likely consider midfield options beyond the Brazilian in the long run.

Vermeeren‘s reputation and value have been steadily increasing, but it won’t be easy for the English giants to secure a move. Due to the number of teams involved in the deal, the midfielder has a vast pool of clubs to choose from.

Ten Hag may consider signing the young ace in January but could opt to let the player complete the current season in Belgium.

Interestingly, Antwerp is set to play against Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday night, which presents an excellent opportunity for the midfielder to show his growing talent.

It remains to be seen whether Man United plans something out of the box to grab the star player ahead of their fierce rivals.
