Manchester United plan to reward Aaron Wan-Bissaka for his improved form with a new contract proposal
Premier League giants Manchester United have initiated discussions with Aaron Wan-Bissaka about a potential contract extension, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano on YouTube.
The English full-back has experienced a resurgence in his career under the management of Erik ten Hag, earning his place back in the starting lineup.
This marks a remarkable turnaround for a player who, not too long ago, seemed to be headed for an exit from Old Trafford.
Romano previously confirmed that United had considered Josip Juranovic from Celtic as a potential replacement for Wan-Bissaka if he were to leave the club.
However, the 25-year-old’s improved performance and current status at Old Trafford indicate that this decision was ultimately the correct one.
The club is now in talks with the former Crystal Palace star about a new contract, reflecting the positive impact of his improved form. Romano said on his YouTube handle:
“The conversation between Wan-Bissaka and Man United’s camp over a new deal are ongoing. The agreement is not done over the new contract. But the conversation is on and so its a possibility.”
While a formal agreement hasn’t been reached yet, the fact that discussions are ongoing suggests that both parties are inclined to extend their relationship.
Wan-Bissaka‘s noteworthy performances since January have made a strong case for his contributions. However, there is also the possibility that the Red Devils are safeguarding his market value.
His current contract with the club expires at the end of the season, potentially allowing him to leave without a transfer fee.
This would be a disappointing outcome considering the £45 million plus £5m in add-ons the club invested in him.
By securing his future at Old Trafford, Man United can gain some bargaining power and hope to receive a transfer fee if his departure becomes likely. Recently, the experienced defender was on the bench for the English giants during their recent defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion due to an injury.
Hopefully, his injury won’t be severe, and he can return with full enthusiasm to continue his journey of redemption. At the moment, the player seems to be meeting expectations in a season that has seen more disappointments than successes for Man United.
