German coach Thomas Tuchel is forbidden from the touchline for the Bayern Munich vs. Manchester United clash
According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United gets a major boost as they visit the Allianz Arena to face Bayern Munich in a crunch UEFA Champions League (UCL) match on Wednesday.
Bavarian coach Thomas Tuchel will be unavailable to coach from the touchline due to a suspension.
Both clubs are set to clash in their opening UCL group stage match of the season, in what is considered one of the marquee fixtures of the first round of Europe’s premier tournament.
Bayern and Man United find themselves in Group A, alongside Copenhagen and Galatasaray, and both teams are optimistic about advancing to the round of 16 in this season’s competition.
However, these clubs are entering the match after disappointing outcomes over the weekend. The German giants conceded a late equaliser in the 94th minute against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday, and the Red Devils suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The recent draw for Bayern marked their first game this season without a victory, whereas United have already suffered three Premier League defeats, losing to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in addition to their recent loss to Brighton.
Despite the English giants’ poorer form compared to their counterparts, they might take some encouragement from the fact that their opponent’s manager, Tuchel, won’t be able to provide on-field instructions to his talented squad from the dugout.
The former Chelsea coach is facing a touchline ban for the upcoming match against the Red Devils. Tuchel received a red card during the second leg of Bayern’s quarter-final match against Manchester City last season. This game ended in a 1-1 draw, but Bayern had previously lost 3-0 in the first leg.
The manager’s red card came as he confronted the referee after an incident involving Kingsley Coman and Aymeric Laporte near the halfway line.
For the upcoming match, first-team coaches Zsolt Low and Anthony Barry will be on the touchline, while Tuchel will watch from the stands.
As a consequence, the German boss will be observing the game from the stadium stands, but he is permitted to enter his team’s dressing room and maintain communication with his coaching staff.
Man United will aim to capitalise on the circumstances and potentially cause an unexpected victory on their away turf.
