Former Manchester United star Gary Neville blames the Glazers for the club’s shambolic performance against Brighton and Hove Albion
Pundit Gary Neville has held the Glazer family responsible for Manchester United’s dismal 3-1 loss to Brighton on Saturday.
The Red Devils were clearly outperformed at Old Trafford by Roberto De Zerbi’s team, underscoring the need for a huge improvement in Erik ten Hag‘s squad if they aim to secure a top-four finish this season.
This defeat has left United in 12th place, with just six points and a negative four-goal difference. The English giants had a promising start but eventually conceded a goal as former player Danny Welbeck scored in the 20th minute.
Pascal Gross then extended Brighton’s lead after halftime, and Joao Pedro, coming off the bench, sealed the game with a composed strike from the edge of the box.
Hannibal Mejbri raised hopes for United with a goal in the 73rd minute, but unfortunately, his team couldn’t capitalise on the momentum to create more chances.
While there has been criticism directed at Ten Hag and the entire Red Devils squad for the defeat, Neville believes that the responsibility for the performance should be put on the Glazers.
He wrote on his official Twitter handle:
“Oh and yes the Glazers are responsible. It’s how it works. You own a business and everything good and bad sits with you! They’ve overseen 10 years of mediocrity off the pitch and on the pitch. “
“They set the culture of greed, ill-discipline, indecision and uncertainty that runs right through the club. It would be best if they sold the club with some speed and efficiency.”
Neville‘s demands for the American family to give up their control at Old Trafford come amid a long and drawn-out takeover process that has been ongoing for nearly ten months.
Prior to the Brighton game, an anti-Glazers banner was seen in the stadium. Similar to the former United player, the fans have shown unwavering determination in their quest to remove their unpopular owners.
Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are eagerly awaiting the outcome of their bids to buy United.
However, there are concerns that the current owners might not accept these offers and instead opt for a minority investment, which would likely lead to strong opposition since it would mean the Glazers retaining control of the club.
The United supporters are frustrated by the dark shadow lingering on the club for the past few months. Injuries, player controversies, poor performances, and ownership drama have completely halted the club’s progress this season.
It seems as if things are at a stand, and there is nothing positive to feel joyous about.
The Glazers have been completely quiet in this matter, and with no response from the hierarchy, the entire blame game has shifted to the players and the manager.
