Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford criticized for his performance for England
England legend Stuart Pearce criticized Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford for his inconsistent performance during England’s game against Scotland.
England won the international friendly 1-3 as Rashford was substituted for Eberechi Eze in the 71st minute of the game.
Rashford applied his speed and off-the-ball movement to cause a lot of problems for Scotland from the start. The 25-year-old helped in creating Phil Foden’s opening goal for England but he was quiet during the second half.
Pearce told talkSPORT (h/t Metro):
United experienced inefficiency whenever they deployed Rashford as the main forward in the No. 9 role this season. United manager Erik ten Hag shifted him to the left flank where the Englishman thrived and delivered 4 goals and 1 assist this season.
The Englishman was the leading goal scorer for the Red Devils last season. Rashford made 56 appearances in all competitions while contributing 30 goals and 11 assists for the club.
Pearce’s constructive criticism may seem a bit harsh, given Rashford’s track record. However, it highlights the importance of consistent 90-minute performances that define greatness.
Rashford can take pride in the comparison to Thierry Henry, a football legend and one of the best forwards ever to grace the English Premier League; some argue he was the very best.
As Marcus Rashford enters the prime years of his career, he has already cemented his position as the top forward for Manchester United. This English talent is not just a crucial figure for his club but also a key player for his national team.
