Sergio Ramos declined an offer from Manchester United before joining Sevilla
According to Mundo Deportivo, Sergio Ramos rejected an offer from Manchester United before joining Sevilla. The Spanish defender was out of contract after his 2-year stint at Paris Saint-Germain came to an end earlier this summer.
Ramos was the target of many clubs from around the world. Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad proposed an annual package of $21.6 million to the former Real Madrid legend but to no avail.
United upped their pursuit of Ramos after Raphael Varane‘s injury. The Frenchman will be sidelined for weeks, according to a report from BBC Sport. Ramos would not have just made up the numbers at the back but also filled the leadership vacuum.
The Red Devils proposed a 1-year contract with a salary of $92,000 per week. Ramos chose to decline the offer of reuniting with his former Madrid defensive partner, Varane and instead has returned to his boyhood club. Surely his career has come full circle now.
United are currently lying in 11th position in the Premier League standings after playing four matches. The Red Devils lost 3-1 against Arsenal in the most recent game and saw Lisandro Martinez suffer a foot injury during the game. Victor Lindelof was also taken off due to illness.
Harry Maguire and 35-year-old Johhny Evans as their centre-back pair. United fans heavily criticized both defenders for conceding two late goals that cost them the game. Having them continue will not do anybody any favours.
It is understandable that the frustration of the poor start is high but the season is just starting. United will have ample time to rectify their defensive woes. While hoping that their injured players return to action soon.
Ramos will be returning to his boyhood club, Sevilla. Despite the lucrative offers from various clubs, he chose to go back to the place where he started his footballing career.

United fans understand this sentiment as they’ve had many loyal players who played for their beloved club. Some things are more important than money and competition with that, we hope Ramos enjoys the remainder of his playing career.
